History in the Phoenix Park

Welcome!


This is a blog about one of the most famous historical sites found in the Phoenix park, Áras an Uachtaráin. The extensive history of the park itself goes back to the Neolithic and the Bronze Age. For the next three weeks we will be investigating; why is Áras an Uachtaráin important,  how the building has changed over time and who are the important people who have lived there.

Fun Fact: The name Phoenix has nothing to do with the bird, but is a mispronunciation of the Irish name “Fionn Uisce”, meaning clear water.
